Giles Gamble, who has worked alongside Tom Hendrickson for the past ten years, presented the three day workshop.

The course was a requirement for anyone looking to take part in the 112 hour training programme. The reason was to ensure all attending the 112 hours courses will start at a similar skill base.

Giles and Sue made sure that everybody who attended understood the method and this was well received.

There is upcoming extensive training in the Hendrickson Method starting 29th September.

We feel the aims of the workshop were achieved:

• A clear understanding of how Wave Mobilisation impacts the body
• An understanding of how your own body impacts both your massage strokes and the well being of your own body
• An understanding of pain free joint mobilisation
• An understanding of how to combine soft tissue mobilisation with muscle energy re-education
• How to apply Wave Mobilisation in treating your patients

• An understanding of how to apply a complete spinal treatment
• How to apply MET’s through your treatment

This workshop allowed open debate for practitioners to share experience, success and lessons learnt. Attendees will able to review soft tissue mobilisation strokes and gain clarity on assessment when the aetiology is insidious and gradual. Also all practitioners will able to review treatment protocol for patients in acute pain, overlaying a chronic condition.

Should pain and should girdle pain and dysfunction is becoming increasingly common with a prevalence of 15% to 25% of the 40-50 age group. With an increasingly aging population, who remain active into advancing years, degeneration can be significant in rotator cuff injuries. Work related shoulder girdle pain and dysfunction is on the increase due to the volume of office/desk based employment. With many shoulder disorders it is the soft tissue tendons and join capsule that are the root of the pain and dysfunction.

The aims of the workshop which we covered over the weekend:

1) Anatomy review
2) Reviewed treatment processes
3) Explored the understanding of chronic shoulder pain
4) Looked into how muscle imbalance can impact on acute/chronic shoulder pain
5) Deepened knowledge of assessment
6) Broadened the understanding of applying METs to acute shoulder conditions
7) Introduced Hendrickson Method strokes to realign muscle

The learning outcomes achieved by our students:

1) Developed a greater knowledge in treating patients from their position of comfort
2) Extended knowledge of the impact of the synergist involvement in shoulder pain
3) Have a greater confidence in treating people who are afraid of their pain
4) Extended understanding of knowledge in applying muscle energy technique to acute and chronic shoulder pain
5) Understand the role muscle imbalance plays in shoulder pain
6) To be able to confidently apply Hendrickson Method strokes

The course introduced some of the techniques of joint mobilisation and the principles of articulatory treatment within a therapeutic setting. These techniques have been developed by experienced practitioners and are tried and tested over the last century in practice by various physical therapists.

The weekend provided a good overview of the fundamentals of mechanical treatments and gave the therapist a good set of basic skills and a routine that can be applied alongside remedial massage and Hendrickson Method.

We feel the aims and leering outcomes of the workshop were achieved:

• Exploring safe techniques of articulation for the spine and extremities
